Job Summary
The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical role in the maternal healthcare team, delivering quality care to expectant mothers during labor and the immediate postpartum period. This position entails providing support, education, and medical interventions to ensure a safe and positive birthing experience for both mothers and newborns. The Labor and Delivery RN collaborates with healthcare providers and other staff to promote optimal outcomes in maternal and infant health.
Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor the health and progress of laboring mothers and their babies.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and families during the labor process.
- Administer medications and interventions as ordered and within scope of practice.
- Coordinate and communicate with the healthcare team regarding patient status and needs.
- Document all patient interactions and details of care provided accurately and timely.
- Assist in the delivery process, ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and child.
- Provide postpartum care and education to new mothers on infant care and health maintenance.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience in Labor and Delivery nursing preferred, showcasing strong clinical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to interact effectively with patients and their families.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, demonstrating strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of maternal and neonatal care protocols and procedures.
