Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in the operating room (OR) by ensuring that surgical procedures are conducted safely and efficiently. This position involves working closely with surgeons, nurses, and other medical personnel to provide optimum patient care through meticulous preparation and organization of surgical instruments and supplies.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment before surgeries.
- Assist surgeons during the procedure by passing instruments and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are readily available.
- Conduct proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments after surgeries to maintain safety and hygiene standards.
- Monitor the condition of surgical tools and ensure they are functional and sterile.
- Provide support to patients by explaining procedures and ensuring their comfort before anesthesia is administered.
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
- Certification from a recognized body such as the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is preferred.
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures and sterile techniques.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to perform under pressure and maintain a heightened attention to detail.
