Field Service Engineer

We are looking for a talented Field Service Engineer to provide support for sophisticated ultra-precision CNC machinery utilized in the optical manufacturing sector. This role, which directly engages with customers, involves the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of high-precision CNC equipment across North America. The ideal candidate possesses a robust blend of mechanical, electrical, and automation knowledge, along with experience in applications engineering and a comprehensive understanding of ultra-precision manufacturing techniques.

Field Service Engineer Responsibilities

  • Execute the installation, commissioning, and validation of ultra-precision CNC machinery at client locations.
  • Identify and fix mechanical, electrical, CNC control, PLC, drive system, and automation-related problems.
  • Deliver technical assistance, preventive maintenance, repairs, and urgent troubleshooting to enhance equipment availability.
  • Enhance machine performance and manufacturing workflows to boost quality, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Assist customers with applications related to precision optical manufacturing processes such as grinding, diamond turning, polishing, and centering.
  • Educate clients on machine operation, maintenance practices, and optimal procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering and technical teams to address complex challenges and implement enhancements.
  • Maintain documentation of service activities, technical observations, and suggestions.
  • Foster and sustain robust customer relationships through outstanding technical assistance and communication.

Field Service Engineer Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Proven experience in servicing and supporting ultra-precision CNC machinery in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with machine installation, commissioning, calibration, and field service support.
  • Practical experience troubleshooting CNC controls, PLCs, servo/drive systems, industrial automation, and electrical/mechanical frameworks.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills, with the capacity to work independently in field settings.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake extensive travel across North America.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in supporting precision optics, photonics, semiconductor, aerospace, or other high-precision manufacturing sectors.
  • Knowledge of advanced CNC programming, process enhancement, and precision machining applications.
  • Background in providing customer training and technical application support.
  • Strong familiarity with optical manufacturing processes, including grinding, diamond turning, polishing, and centering.
