Job Title: HVAC Engineer II (Industrial)

Location: Akron, Ohio

Reports To: Mechanical Department Manager

Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Salary: $80,000–$95,000 (overtime eligible for hours exceeding 40 per week)

Schedule: On-site with a hybrid work option available

Relocation support and a sign-on bonus may be provided

Position Overview

The HVAC Engineer II will be instrumental in providing engineering and design solutions for industrial HVAC systems on a variety of significant projects. This role demands extensive practical experience within industrial settings, including chemical production facilities, manufacturing plants, or large storage warehouses. The successful candidate will be a proactive engineer, capable of leading projects, collaborating across various disciplines, and executing both office and field design responsibilities.

This role emphasizes the design of HVAC systems, process ventilation, clean room environments, and pressurization for hazardous locations, along with other related mechanical engineering duties. While experience in dust control, plumbing, or fire protection systems is beneficial, it is not mandatory.

This position allows for a hybrid work model, but applicants who can only work remotely are not eligible.

Key Responsibilities

HVAC Engineering & Design (Main Focus)

  • Oversee HVAC engineering projects for designated industrial initiatives.
  • Design HVAC systems tailored for industrial facilities, process plants, and associated office environments.
  • Create ventilation and pressurization systems for hazardous or classified areas.
  • Conduct load calculations for heating and cooling; select and size suitable equipment.
  • Review existing building ventilation systems and recommend design optimizations.
  • Draft equipment specifications and layout plans for HVAC systems.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and engage directly with clients.
  • Prepare cost estimates throughout various project stages.
  • Perform field assessments, collect site data, generate field sketches, and validate design documentation.

Dust Control Engineering & Design (Preferred)

  • Engineered dust collection solutions for managing nuisance and combustible dust.
  • Draft specifications for equipment and design ductwork arrangements.

Plumbing (Preferred but Not Required)

  • Design systems for potable water distribution, sanitary waste, stormwater, and process sewers.
  • Specify equipment such as tempered water systems, safety showers, and eyewash stations.

Fire Protection (Preferred but Not Required)

  • Assess potential hazards to determine necessary fire protection coverage.
  • Create coverage diagrams for fire protection service providers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in HVAC engineering and design, with a preference for industrial settings.
  • EIT certification is required; candidates should be actively pursuing PE licensure.
  • Familiarity with mechanical codes and standards (NFPA, ASHRAE, OSHA) is essential.
  • Prior consulting engineering experience is an advantage.
  • Experience with dust collection, plumbing, or fire protection systems is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with Revit or Navisworks is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks, employment verification, and post-offer drug testing.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Availability for domestic travel as needed.
  • Able to work on-site a minimum of three days a week.
  • Reliable, punctual, and capable of meeting productivity and quality expectations.
  • Able to manage variable workloads and associated stress effectively.
  • Proficient in necessary technologies (computers, tablets, communication applications).
  • Organized, proactive, and able to manage time independently.
