Machine Operator

Position Summary:
As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for setting up and managing form, fill, and seal packaging machinery. Your primary objective will be to ensure that retail packaging meets the highest quality standards as per specified guidelines and production schedules. You are expected to achieve or exceed daily production targets while promptly reporting any deviations, inventory shortages, machine issues, or potential scheduling challenges to management. Additionally, you will oversee your designated personnel, ensuring that a trained substitute can fill your role during absences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and adhere to product specifications and production timelines.
- Set up and operate packaging machinery in accordance with specified guidelines.
- Organize and prepare film, cartons, and labels as per requirements.
- Collaborate with mixers to ensure the timely availability of the correct edible products.
- Apply the appropriate labels and printing to bags following specifications.
- Prepare cartons in accordance with product specifications.
- Examine packages to ensure they contain the right product, have proper film, seal integrity, appropriate fill weight, correct labeling, and printing.
- Place bags into cartons and ensure labeling and printing on cartons meets standards.
- Assess the case weight of finished products against specifications.
- Seal and stack cartons on pallets as per specifications.
- Label finished boxes and pallets appropriately.
- Transport finished products to the designated staging area.
- Return unused packaging materials to the assigned inventory location.
- Alert management immediately regarding any abnormalities or production exceptions.
- Notify maintenance and management about machine-related issues without delay.
- Complete daily production reports accurately in accordance with company guidelines.
- Report to management for work assignments during periods of machine downtime.
- Disassemble non-standard products as directed.
- Maintain cleanliness of your work area and all equipment used.
- Lead and train assigned personnel effectively.
- Follow established quality sign-off procedures diligently.
- Comply with all safety protocols.
- Adhere to food safety and quality regulations, ensuring proper documentation is completed as needed.
- Possess a thorough understanding of ATP testing and effective cleaning and sanitization methods for all retail production equipment.
- Familiarize yourself and comply with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Complete all necessary Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) checks and sign-offs.
- Perform any additional tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of the Retail product line.
- Solid reading and mathematical skills.
- Excellent mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic skills; ability to manage non-major maintenance tasks independently.
- Proficient knowledge of the metric system.
- Able to supervise and train others effectively.
- Tow motor certification is required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs overhead.
- Able to handle rolls of film weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Capacity to lift 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the workday.
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks, work autonomously, and achieve goals without constant supervision.
- Must be capable of climbing ladders/stairs and accessing platforms for equipment use.
