Job Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician plays a crucial role in the eye care team by assisting ophthalmologists in providing high-quality patient care. The technician is responsible for conducting various preliminary examinations and tests, collecting essential patient information, and maintaining a smooth workflow within the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive initial assessments of patients’ eye health and vision.
  • Administer diagnostic tests including visual field testing, ocular imaging, and tonometry.
  • Assist in the preparation of patients for examinations and procedures.
  • Document patient history and relevant data accurately in the medical record system.
  • Provide education and guidance to patients on proper eye care practices.
  • Coordinate with the ophthalmologist to discuss findings and assist in treatment planning.
  • Maintain sterilization of equipment and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification as an ophthalmic technician is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmic instruments and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for patient interaction and teamwork.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Prior experience in a medical or clinical setting, especially in ophthalmology, is a plus.
