Job Summary
The role of Senior Electrical Engineer involves leveraging expertise in electric power transmission and distribution along with a strong commitment to innovation. This engineer should possess excellent organizational skills and effective communication abilities to engage diverse teams and clients. The position emphasizes collaboration with client teams and grants significant autonomy in making judgments and decisions aligned with program goals.
Responsibilities
- Transmission Planning: Conduct power system evaluations, including analyses of load flow, stability, short-circuit, and voltage, to facilitate long-term transmission strategies and ensure reliable grid operations.
- Capacity Planning: Generate load projections and analyze the effects of renewable resources, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), and significant electrical demands, such as data centers, on the transmission network.
- System Studies & Compliance: Oversee ISO/RTO interconnection study protocols, ensure adherence to NERC and FERC regulations, and carry out contingency analyses (N-1, N-1-1) to identify and apply substantial system enhancements, including reconductoring and Remedial Action Schemes (RAS).
- Technical Leadership: Create detailed engineering documentation and act as a technical authority in regional transmission planning efforts, stakeholder engagements, and strategic initiatives.
- Strategic Advisory: Translate intricate technical data, such as power flow, thermal capacity, and system stability analysis, into clear business directives, project timelines, risk evaluations, and financial implications for executive stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a relevant discipline.
- Over 10 years of experience in power systems engineering.
- Background with major utilities, ISO/RTO, or dedicated power delivery systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, GIS, PowerWorld Simulator, ETAP-G, or other energy management software.
- Familiarity with reading construction documents, such as drawings, specifications, and RFPs.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Experience in electric utility capacity planning and operations is preferred.
