Job Summary
The Vibration Test Engineer plays a pivotal role in the assessment of propeller vibration testing, focusing on compatibility with engine configurations for aircraft. This position involves outlining necessary tests and instrumentation, orchestrating test operations, overseeing logistics, interpreting data, and conveying technical findings. The role includes conducting tests at both company sites and client locations, with travel requirements that may reach 25%, including some international destinations. Work environments will vary and include office settings, testing laboratories, and aircraft hangars, with hands-on responsibilities such as installing propellers and vibration measurement devices. Additionally, the engineer will be involved in data collection aboard test aircraft and will contribute to achieving FAA ODA Unit Member qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Conduct vibration tests to assess the compatibility of propellers with engines.
- Plan and oversee vibration testing projects, including setup, execution, and coordination.
- Establish requirements for instrumentation and data acquisition.
- Analyze results from tests and produce comprehensive technical reports.
- Install strain gauges and vibration testing apparatus on both aluminum and composite materials.
- Share technical insights with internal teams, clients, and external advisors.
- Assist in configuration, design, and installation discussions pertinent to the testing process.
- Handle multiple projects and their schedules concurrently.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering Technology with A&P certification.
- At least 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Proficiency in computer applications, particularly MS Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in flight testing.
- Background as a pilot and familiarity with general aviation aircraft.
- Knowledge or experience with electronic testing equipment.
Technical Competencies
- Understanding of flight testing principles including planning, data acquisition, and technical reporting.
- Expertise in vibration and fatigue analysis.
- Foundational knowledge of aircraft performance metrics.
