Job Summary
The BMT/Mal Heme RN position involves the provision of specialized nursing care to patients undergoing bone marrow transplant and treatment for hematologic malignancies. This role demands a proficient nurse who can manage complex clinical scenarios while delivering compassionate patient support and education throughout the treatment process.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive assessments of patients receiving bone marrow transplantation and those diagnosed with hematologic malignancies.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accurate dosing and monitoring for side effects.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide patient and family education about disease processes, treatment options, and post-transplant care.
- Monitor patient progress, documenting changes and communicating with the medical team regarding any concerns or complications.
- Participate in patient rounds and case discussions to enhance care strategies and outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with all hospital policies and procedures, as well as relevant regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Current RN license and certification in the state of practice.
- Previous experience in oncology, hematology, or related fields with a preference for BMT experience.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients and healthcare team members.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Certification in chemotherapy and biotherapy administration is preferred.
