Travel Surgical Technologist
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) plays a crucial role in supporting surgical operations by ensuring a safe and efficient environment. Collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff, the CST sets up and maintains the operating room with a focus on sterilization and readiness throughout surgical procedures. The ideal candidate should possess strong communication abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and a steadfast commitment to patient safety.
Responsibilities
- Establish the surgical setting by arranging instruments, equipment, and sterile draping.
- Check and organize supplies to guarantee that all necessary surgical tools and implants are accessible.
- Uphold rigorous aseptic and sterile techniques throughout surgical events.
- Assist the surgical team by providing instruments, sponges, and materials as needed during surgeries.
- Proactively address the requirements of the surgical team and swiftly respond to their requests.
- Conduct counts of instruments, sponges, and sharps before, during, and after surgical procedures to ensure safety.
- Manage specimens correctly and prepare them for laboratory evaluations.
- Decontaminate, clean, and prepare instruments for sterilization following operations.
- Supervise and maintain the operational efficiency of all surgical equipment.
- Collaborate effectively with circulating nurses and other operating room personnel to ensure patient care continuity.
- Contribute to patient safety protocols and adhere to hospital guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is mandatory.
- Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is essential.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.
- Strong understanding of sterile techniques, surgical methodologies, and instrument protocols.
- Excellent organizational abilities with a keen attention to detail.
- Capability to remain composed and focused in urgent, fast-paced situations.
- Proficient teamwork and communication skills are vital.
- While prior operating room experience is favored, fresh graduates may also apply.
