Position Overview for Construction Estimator
We are looking for a driven and meticulous Construction Estimator / Preconstruction Engineer to assist with water and wastewater infrastructure projects from the initial design phase to the completion of bids. This position entails generating precise cost estimates, aiding in bid strategies, and working collaboratively with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to produce competitive and actionable project submissions.
Key Responsibilities of the Construction Estimator
- Create cost estimates for water and wastewater construction projects at different design stages, encompassing conceptual, budgetary, and detailed bid estimates.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs and analyze drawings, specifications, and project stipulations.
- Assist Lead Estimators, Chief Estimators, and Preconstruction Managers in the preparation of bids and other preconstruction tasks.
- Request, evaluate, and assess subcontractor and vendor pricing.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Contribute to bid leveling, scope assessments, and cost evaluation.
- Engage in collaborative delivery projects and assist with value engineering initiatives.
- Identify potential project risks, assumptions, and opportunities for cost savings.
Basic Qualifications for Construction Estimator
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for water and wastewater infrastructure construction.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and teamwork capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications for Construction Estimator
- Experience in water or wastewater infrastructure construction.
- Prior involvement in construction cost estimating or parametric estimating.
- Familiarity with methods related to heavy civil or industrial construction.
- Experience engaging with subcontractors and analyzing vendor pricing.
