Equipment Maintenance Technician Level 5
Location: Solon, OH
Salary: $38 – $41/HR
The **Equipment Maintenance Technician Level 5** is a senior role focused on identifying and resolving intricate equipment issues, diagnosing root causes, and enhancing equipment reliability. This position acts as a technical guide and mentor for fellow maintenance technicians, while also providing independent support to plant management, Engineering, and various interdisciplinary teams. Proficiency in troubleshooting a diverse array of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, and PLC-controlled equipment is crucial.
Key Responsibilities of the Equipment Maintenance Technician:
- Diagnose and repair sophisticated mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, and fluid power systems.
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting across various manufacturing equipment to uncover the root causes of failures.
- Execute preventative maintenance and contribute to Reliability Excellence and predictive maintenance initiatives.
- Read, interpret, and troubleshoot blueprints, assembly drawings, and electrical schematics for equipment.
- Assess equipment controls and propose modifications or improvements to PLC logic programs.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and analytical equipment such as multimeters, hydraulic test gauges, precision levels, and other predictive technologies.
- Provide technical expertise in welding, soldering, machining, fabrication, and basic plumbing.
- Service and troubleshoot systems related to power transmission.
- Offer expertise in leveling and alignment of equipment during installations and relocations.
- Construct specialty and research & development equipment following specifications and technical guidance from Engineering.
- Suggest and implement modifications to equipment aimed at enhancing reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Lead root cause analysis initiatives, conduct shift start-up meetings, and oversee departmental meetings.
- Act as a technical liaison with Product, Process, Quality, and Reliability Engineers.
- Coach and train other maintenance technicians in troubleshooting practices, predictive technologies, fabrication, and machining.
- Adhere to plant safety protocols including LOTO, Arc Flash, confined spaces, fall protection, hot work, compressed gas, and PPE standards.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing principles such as 5S, CEDAC, and Standard Work.
Qualifications for the Equipment Maintenance Technician:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least 6 years of relevant maintenance experience; a technical degree may substitute for 2 years of experience.
- Extensive troubleshooting experience with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, and fluid power systems.
- Proficiency in diagnosing intricate equipment issues and conducting root cause analyses.
- Skilled in reading and troubleshooting equipment blueprints, assembly drawings, and electrical schematics.
- Experience with PLC-controlled equipment, including making recommendations or adjustments to PLC logic programs.
- Strong background in preventative and predictive maintenance technologies.
- Familiarity with welding, soldering, fabrication, machining, and power transmission systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing and assembly workflows.
- Previous mentoring or training experience of other maintenance staff is preferred.
- Ability to independently manage maintenance tasks and report equipment conditions to plant management.
- Must complete required training for Powered Industrial Equipment.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. and remain on foot for 8–12 hours each day.
- Must be able to obtain respirator certification and travel to other sites or vendors as necessary.
