High-Throughput Analytical & Purification Scientist
Boston, MA
$45-55/hr
6-Month Contract

The High-Throughput Analytical & Purification Scientist will build and operate analytical workflows connecting high-throughput synthetic chemistry to compound delivery, data generation, and downstream biological testing. They will execute purification and characterization workflows for reaction products, intermediates, and final compounds. The role spans preparative and analytical separations, UPLC-MS, EchoMS, sample management, automation-enabled execution, and structured data capture. Experience using mass spectrometry for ADME, bioanalysis, or other biochemical and cell-based assay readouts is highly valuable.

High-Throughput Analytical & Purification Scientist Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute purification workflows for small-molecule reaction mixtures, intermediates, and final compounds using preparative and analytical chromatography or related separation techniques; optimize recovery, purity, throughput, and reproducibility.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and improve UPLC-MS and EchoMS workflows for compound identity, purity, reaction progress, and high-throughput analytical readouts, including appropriate standards, controls, and QC checks.
  • Partner with synthetic chemists and automation engineers to support parallel reactions and chemistry campaigns through practical sample management, plate mapping, analytical feedback, compound tracking, and reliable handoffs.
  • Support MS-based readouts from ADME, DMPK, bioanalysis, enzymology, or cell-based assays using appropriate sample preparation, calibration, internal-standard, and data-QC approaches.
  • Maintain clear ELN/LIMS records, methods, SOPs, runbooks, metadata, and analysis-ready outputs while identifying improvements to workflow robustness, throughput, cost, data quality, and operator experience.

High-Throughput Analytical & Purification Scientist Requirements:

  • B.S. in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, or a related field with 2–5 years of relevant industry experience; or an M.S. with 1–3 years; or a Ph.D. with relevant hands-on experience.
  • Hands-on experience with UPLC, HPLC, LC-MS, or related analytical platforms used for small-molecule characterization.
  • Experience with chromatographic separations and purification of small molecules, including method development, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to execute high-throughput, plate-based, parallel, or automation-enabled workflows with strong documentation, data quality, and attention to schedule.
  • Experience with EchoMS, acoustic ejection mass spectrometry, high-throughput mass spectrometry, or comparable rapid MS workflows is preferred.
  • Experience with MS readouts for ADME, DMPK, bioanalysis, enzymology, or cell-based assays, including quantitative methods, standard curves, internal standards, or matrix-effect assessments is preferred.
  • Experience with preparative HPLC, flash chromatography, SPE, automated purification, fraction collection, or related small-molecule separation workflows is preferred.
  • Experience integrating analytical workflows with liquid handlers, acoustic dispensers, laboratory automation, LIMS/ELN, or data-analysis tools such as Python, R, or Spotfire is preferred.
