Job Summary
The role of an ICU Registered Nurse (RN) involves delivering essential care to critically ill patients within an Intensive Care Unit. The ICU RN plays a vital part in closely monitoring patients’ conditions, administering medications, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes. Their expertise is crucial in managing life-threatening health issues and providing support to patients and their families during challenging times.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess patient vital signs and overall health status continuously.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by medical practitioners.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians and allied healthcare professionals to create and implement patient care plans.
- Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families regarding health conditions and treatment options.
- Maintain a sterile and safe environment in the ICU to prevent infections and ensure patient safety.
- Document patient care, observations, and responses accurately in medical records.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and provide life-saving interventions when necessary.
Qualifications
- Current RN licensure in the state of practice.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Relevant experience in critical care or intensive care nursing.
- Strong assessment, clinical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is typically required.
