Job Summary
The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) plays a vital role in assisting occupational therapists in delivering rehabilitative care to patients dealing with disabilities, injuries, or complications from illnesses. The OTA is essential in implementing treatment plans designed to enhance the patients’ ability to perform daily tasks and improve their quality of life.
Responsibilities
- Assist therapists in preparing treatment plans and modifying them based on patients’ progress.
- Conduct therapy sessions according to established care plans and report patient responses to treatment.
- Educate patients and their families about therapies and help them understand their rehabilitation processes.
- Document patient progress and maintain records as required.
- Support patients in the use of adaptive equipment and exercises aimed at promoting independence.
Qualifications
- Certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited program.
- State licensure or certification to practice as an OTA.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients and co-workers.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
- Knowledge of therapeutic techniques and patient care practices.
