Prototyping & Fabrication Engineer
Sunnyvale, CA
$35/HR We are seeking a Engineer specializing in prototyping and fabrication to serve as the on-site technical expert for a wide range of prototyping and fabrication techniques. The successful candidate will lead fabrication projects, develop advanced and novel methods, and assist in testing and characterizing fabricated products across diverse applications.
Prototype & Fabrication Engineer Responsibilities:
- Lead prototyping and fabrication projects, including 3D printing, CNC milling, large-format routing, and lamination
- Develop advanced or non-standard fabrication methods to support unique project requirements
- Collaborate closely with engineers and technical specialists across optical, thermal, and mechanical characterization projects
- Conduct hands-on lab work, troubleshoot issues, and apply creative problem-solving in a fast-paced environment
- Perform basic data analysis and statistical evaluation of experimental results
- Maintain strong interpersonal relationships and work effectively within a diverse team
Prototype & Fabrication Engineer Qualifications:
- Required: B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with significant hands-on training
- Preferred: 1–3 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory with prototyping/fabrication equipment
- Proficiency with basic shop tools and experience with CNC mills and 3D printers
- Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks) and the ability to produce professional engineering drawings
- Familiarity with basic materials characterization and metrology equipment (e.g., stress-strain testers, confocal microscopes)
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to present technical information clearly
- Strong curiosity, a willingness to learn beyond assigned tasks, and excellent problem-solving skills
