QC Lab Technician
Wooster, OH
Sunday – Thursday
$22 – $24.52 /hour + $1.15/hour 3rd Shift Differential

The Quality Control Lab Technician plays a crucial role in supporting testing within five interconnected laboratories. This position involves performing analytical, microbiological, raw material, and stability assessments to guarantee product quality, compliance with regulations, and the consistency of manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities of the QC Lab Technician:

  • Ensure a safe working environment and adhere to all safety protocols.
  • Assess the quality of raw materials and finished products.
  • Deliver precise and prompt communication regarding test outcomes.
  • Manage testing procedures, analyses, and documentation of results.
  • Engage in activities aimed at enhancing products or processes as directed, including addressing customer feedback.
  • Assist in process validation efforts.
  • Support R&D, Quality Assurance, Contract Manufacturing, and Supply Chain functions.
  • Compile data for Game of Work Scorecards.
  • Maintain cleanliness in workspaces and complete necessary cleaning duties.
  • Implement and facilitate standards and specifications.
  • Help develop and execute testing methods, protocols, and analyses as necessary.
  • Ensure proper containment and disposal of hazardous waste and other samples per established protocols.
  • Maintain an inventory of laboratory supplies.
  • Clean and upkeep glassware.
  • Potentially work overtime as required.
  • Prepare, maintain, and organize supplies and work areas.
  • Set up, adjust, calibrate, maintain, clean, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Revise or create operational procedures in the Content Server.
  • Report quality concerns, initiate Laboratory Investigation Reports (LIRs), Quality Notifications (QNs), and Non-Conformance Events (NCEs), assist in investigations, and manage material dispositions.
  • Coordinate testing needs and assignments to align with Supply Chain schedules.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams focused on New Product Development, Process Improvements, or Problem Solving.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to address out-of-specification results for various materials.
  • Capability to operate a tow motor vehicle.
  • Monitor hazardous waste satellite accumulation areas to ensure compliance.
  • Consistently provide assistance regarding customer concerns.
  • Collect and assess shelf life data for Annual Product Reviews (APRs).
  • Develop, track, and maintain the annual stability matrix to comply with regulations.
  • Gather and preserve production samples from in-house and contract manufacturing for shelf life testing.
  • Manage environmental chambers and backup storage areas.
  • Conduct audits on production lines for adherence to quality standards.
  • Responsible for sampling water for analysis.
  • Analyze cleaning validation samples sent to the labs.
  • Possess knowledge regarding the composition, structure, and properties of substances, including chemical uses, interactions, hazard signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Familiarity with HPLC, UPLC, GC, TOC, FTIR, and the applications/functions of other instrumentation.
  • Collect and assess water samples used for manufacturing products, R&D, and cleaning validation for microbial presence.
  • Evaluate samples using Rapid Method Technologies, organism isolation/identification, membrane filtration, and cycles for preservative effectiveness.
  • Conduct Total Plate Count and enrichment studies using standard plating techniques.
  • Prepare and validate media including pH, sterility tests, and growth promotion testing.
  • Act promptly in situations with a high potential for positive microbial results to minimize business risk.
  • Capture and assess environmental samples.
  • Work effectively both collaboratively in teams and autonomously.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications for the QC Lab Technician:

  • An Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in a science-related discipline, preferably in Chemistry or Biology.
  • 1-2+ years of experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Excellent communication abilities.
  • Capable of strategic and creative thinking.
  • Self-motivated and demonstrates initiative in task performance.
  • Must be willing to work the 3rd shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM.
