Senior Estimator
Tempe, AZ
$140,000 – $150,000
The role of the Senior Estimator involves spearheading the estimating process for electrical construction initiatives through the preparation of precise and competitive cost assessments and bid submissions. This position collaborates closely with estimators, project managers, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure that proposals are thorough, competitive, and timely. The Senior Estimator also plays a key role in mentoring junior estimators and facilitating a seamless transition from the estimation phase to project implementation.
Responsibilities of the Senior Estimator:
- Prepare comprehensive cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, and bid proposals for electrical construction projects.
- Examine project plans, specifications, and contractual documents to identify project scope and requirements.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings to uncover opportunities for competitive pricing and value engineering.
- Establish labor productivity rates and installation costs based on historical data and specific project conditions.
- Request and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure that all bid documentation is thorough, accurate, and submitted within specified deadlines.
- Create proposal letters and supporting materials for both negotiated and competitive bids.
- Present finalized estimates for internal evaluation prior to bid submission.
- Engage in project turnover meetings to relay scope, pricing assumptions, risks, and essential project details to the Project Management team.
- Maintain well-organized estimating files, cost databases, and records of past project information.
- Guide and mentor junior estimators while promoting continuous improvement of processes.
Qualifications for the Senior Estimator:
- A bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
- A minimum of four years’ experience in estimating within the construction sector or equivalent relevant experience.
- Previous experience estimating electrical construction projects is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with estimating software such as Accubid Enterprise, LiveCount Cloud, and Bluebeam is advantageous.
- Experience with CAD or 3D modeling software is a plus.
