Overview of SPD Support:
The Sterile Processing Department (SPD) seeks dedicated support staff to assist in vital operations. This role includes responsibilities such as performing equipment tests, conducting diagnostics, assembling and distributing case carts, organizing surgical supplies, and providing dispatch assistance to ensure surgical procedures run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities of SPD Support:

• Execute daily diagnostic evaluations and test medical equipment as required.
• Access pull sheets and adhere to detailed instructions for the selection and documentation of case cart pulls.
• Manage inventory of surgical supplies and equipment, ensuring stock is organized and rotated to align with operational standards.
• Transport and return case carts and supplies to specific clinical areas as needed.
• Carry instruments and supplies to various locations throughout the facility.
• Utilize inventory tracking systems to manage and maintain the status and location of instrument sets.
• Fulfill various operational needs within the Sterile Processing Department as assigned.
• Adhere to all hospital policies and protocols, ensuring compliance with safety and sterilization practices.
• Maintain professional communication with the surgical teams and SPD coworkers to foster efficient operations.
• Perform additional tasks as required.

 
SPD Support Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED is necessary.
• The role demands critical thinking, sound judgment, and the capability to work with minimal oversight.
• Ability to thrive in a high-speed environment and effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Basic literacy, writing, and computer skills are advantageous.
• Professional appearance and demeanor are essential at all times.
• Previous experience in a similar role is not required.

 
Physical Demands for SPD Support:

• Must be capable of a full range of motion, including the ability to lift and move items weighing 20-30 pounds.
• Expected to push a loaded cart weighing over 200 pounds.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods is necessary.
• Lifting and transporting various items throughout the shift is part of the job.
• Potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards is a consideration.
• Corrected vision and hearing within normal limits are required.
