Sterile Processing Assistant
Akron, OH
$18/HR Shifts: 2nd shift
Equipment Handler Summary: The Sterile Processing Department (SPD) relies on the Equipment Handler to carry out crucial responsibilities that include equipment testing, diagnostics, assembling and transporting case carts, organizing surgical inventory, and providing dispatch services. This role is essential for maintaining efficient case flow and ensuring surgical preparedness.
Equipment Handler Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily diagnostic checks and perform necessary equipment evaluations.
- Access pull sheets and adhere to detailed instructions for collecting and documenting case cart pulls.
- Restock, arrange, and rotate surgical supplies and tools to ensure compliance and operational effectiveness.
- Transport, collect, and return case carts and medical supplies to assigned clinical locations.
- Move instruments and supplies to designated areas within the facility.
- Utilize tracking systems to oversee and manage the placement and status of instrument sets.
- Assist in fulfilling the operational needs of the Sterile Processing Department through assigned responsibilities.
- Adhere to all hospital regulations and protocols to ensure safety and sterilization standards are met.
- Engage in professional communication with surgical teams and SPD personnel to ensure smooth operations.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
SPD Support Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Requires critical thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to operate independently.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Basic literacy, writing abilities, and computer skills are preferred.
- Professional demeanor is essential at all times.
- No prior experience necessary.
SPD Support Physical Demands:
- Requires the ability to perform a full range of motion, including lifting and handling items weighing between 20-30 pounds.
- Ability to push a fully loaded cart weighing over 200 pounds.
- Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Must lift and move various items throughout the work shift.
- Potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
- Vision and hearing must be within normal limits with any necessary corrections.
