Sr. IT Associate Project Manager
Remote (EST Hours)
12 Month Contract (Potential to ext.)
$63-67/hr W2 Overview
The Sr. IT Associate Project Manager will partner with IT and business leadership, external vendors, supporting IT teams, and other project managers to identify, prioritize, and manage the work required to achieve defined goals. Able to manage large, complex IT projects including the ability to create and maintain detailed project schedules, communication plans, and project status reporting. Works directly with technology and business leadership, and key stakeholders to reduce risk, provide clarity, and drive project work. Must be able to operate in a fast-paced, complex IT environment. This role requires a project manager who has a proven track record of being able to navigate ambiguity, advocate for effective project management approaches, and creatively adapt tools and methodologies to meet project needs. Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Manages large, often complex projects and project teams (or multiple small to medium sized projects/teams), including defining the project vision, communicating and providing guidance on achieving goals, coordinate project team activities across platforms; proactively manage project work and resource changes to drive project success.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver projects that require flexibility beyond traditional waterfall, utilizing iterative or incremental project development approaches when necessary.
  • Applies appropriate project methodologies (SDLC, change control templates, manages activities to define project schedules, and assists with monthly/quarterly reporting.
  • Collaborates with project leadership in reviewing requirements and specifications to ensure alignment with business objectives and project goals and ensuring efficient usage of resources while not compromising value/quality.
  • Collaborates with external resources (service providers, vendors, contractors) to achieve business results.
  • Develop, prepare, present, and maintain project plans, including staffing requirements, and work breakdown structures.
  • Monitor project progress and maintains documentation/reports for impacted consumers.
  • Perform project risk assessments, including identifying key risk factors, providing effective mitigation strategies, and assigning contingency action plans to schedules.
  • Makes judgments and recommendations based on analysis and knowledge.
  • Responsible for facilitating meetings, tracking key project milestones, risks, change controls, and related project reports in compliance with established technology standards (and in relation to business needs).
  • Comfortable escalating timeline delays.
  • Deliver systems on appropriate platforms in compliance with established technology standards, including monitoring testing, executing quality assurance checks, and ensuring information technology acceptance criteria is met prior to implementation.
  • Ensure that risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints are managed appropriately at project level. Where risks or issues threaten delivery of the project, develop and agree on recovery plans.
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities within the project team and ensure project compliance with the organization's wider program and/or portfolio management decision-making structures and processes.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for business and IT sponsors and proactively shape scope and success measures.
  • Influence without authority, resolve conflict, and create shared understanding through clear narratives and facilitation.
  • Establish stakeholder forums and feedback loops to reduce risk, facilitate change management, and drive adoption.
  • Creates and maintains project artifacts in a repository, such as SharePoint.
  • May assist in developing technology roadmaps.
  • May assist in preparing technology/architectural assessment reviews.
  • May work with procurement on requirements and evaluation of new vendors and/or solutions.

Required skills:

  • Relevant experience directly leading IT projects
  • Hands-on experience with MS Project, including creating and maintaining detailed project schedules, tracking progress, and managing dependencies
  • Proven experience managing projects using the SDLC framework, including predictive methodologies (e.g., waterfall) and iterative or incremental approaches
  • Experience managing large complex projects

Preferred skills and experiences:

  • Experience with release management
  • Proficiency with other project management tools and platforms (e.g., Azure DevOps/TFS, AgilePlace)

Education And/Or Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in leading or facilitating projects in in application development, infrastructure, process, or similar areas is required.
  • {OR} Bachelor's Degree or higher in a Business or Technical discipline (e.g., Business Administration, Communications, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or Project Management) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in leadership or in leading or facilitating projects in an application development, infrastructure, process, or similar areas.
