Job Summary
The Surgical Tech plays a vital role in the operating room, assisting surgical teams by providing instruments and supplies essential for surgical procedures. This position demands a high level of attention to detail and a thorough understanding of surgical practices and protocols to ensure patient safety and efficient operations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the sterile field by setting up surgical instruments and equipment.
- Assist surgeons and nursing staff during surgical procedures by handing over instruments as needed.
- Monitor the condition of instruments and equipment, making sure they are functional and sterile.
- Handle sponges, needles, and instruments, ensuring that all items are accounted for before and after the procedure.
- Perform basic patient care tasks as directed, including positioning patients and transferring them safely.
- Comply with all policies and procedures related to surgical protocols and safety standards.
- Participate in the cleaning and sterilization of instruments and the operating room following procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; certification as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
- Prior experience in a surgical setting is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of surgical terminology and procedures.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and maintain composure.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with medical staff.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is often necessary.
