Job Summary

The Research Associate I, Genetic Medicine will be involved in a range of tasks including maintaining and banking mammalian cell cultures, as well as contributing to high-throughput nucleic acid manufacturing and quality control processes. The role encompasses cell-based assay development, transfections, flow cytometry, and various chromatography techniques for nucleic acids and proteins.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior scientists and engineers in progressing Genetic Medicine initiatives through high-throughput screening and cell engineering experiments.
  • Conduct quality control on mRNA and circRNA using techniques such as sCGE, HTRF, HPLC, and endotoxin testing.
  • Facilitate large-scale RNA and protein purification via chromatography methods.
  • Manage the culture of both adherent and non-adherent mammalian cells.
  • Design and implement functional cell-based assays for high-throughput applications.
  • Collaborate with engineers to incorporate in vitro mammalian screens into automated platforms and software systems.
  • Engage in cross-functional team meetings by attending, contributing, and presenting findings.
  • Generate, assess, and document high-quality data utilizing internal laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and database tools.
  • Oversee laboratory documentation and support laboratory organization and upkeep.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with a minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience after graduation, ideally in an industrial context.
  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture and developing cell-based assays.
  • Experience in synthetic biology involving mammalian systems, such as library-based methodologies and construct design.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, time management, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and adapt workload according to shifting priorities, along with a keen willingness to learn.
  • Preferred familiarity with laboratory automation tools.
  • Desirable experience with data analysis software such as Prism, Tableau, Python, R, and/or JMP.
  • Preference for candidates with experience in nucleic acid purification techniques.
