BIM Manager Overview
The BIM Manager will oversee the creation, implementation, and upkeep of Building Information Modeling (BIM) standards, workflows, and technologies throughout the organization, specifically supporting scaffolding, shoring, and formwork product systems. This role includes providing expert guidance for BIM processes, assisting project teams, managing digital design coordination, and ensuring high-quality modeling standards. The BIM Manager will have considerable freedom to craft and refine the company’s BIM strategy, standards, and technology initiatives while working closely with leadership, clients, engineers, contractors, and consultants.
BIM Manager Responsibilities
- Establish, implement, and sustain the company’s BIM standards, templates, workflows, and best practices.
- Ensure adherence to both company and industry BIM standards.
- Steer BIM strategy and promote ongoing improvement initiatives.
- Assess new technologies and suggest process improvements.
- Provide initial and ongoing BIM training for team members.
- Guide designers and engineers on BIM processes and best practices.
- Create training resources and technical documentation.
- Manage BIM libraries, templates, and resources.
- Define model naming conventions, file organization, and data standards.
- Facilitate model exchanges with customers, consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Administer BIM software platforms and related tools.
- Oversee software licensing, updates, and installations.
- Create automation tools and workflows where relevant.
- Support project teams throughout the planning and design stages.
- Assist in resolving technical issues related to BIM.
- Produce project models and drawings as needed based on workload.
- Collaborate with clients, engineers, contractors, and consultants for project execution.
- Advise on hardware and software solutions to bolster BIM initiatives.
- Engage in project planning and digital delivery activities.
BIM Manager Qualifications
Required
- Associate Degree or Certificate in Design and Drafting Technology or a related area.
- 7–10 years of experience in BIM, design, engineering, or construction.
- A minimum of 3 years in a leadership or management role focused on BIM.
- In-depth knowledge of design and construction documentation.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Capability to interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Strong spatial awareness and the ability to work with complex 3D models.
- Capacity to work autonomously while juggling multiple priorities and supporting various teams.
- Willingness to occasionally visit construction sites and adapt to different environmental conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience with scaffolding, shoring, and/or formwork systems.
- Familiarity with Dynamo and/or development of Revit add-ins.
- Experience in creating BIM automation tools, customized workflows, or digital design projects.
- Experience in facilitating digital project delivery and model coordination among various stakeholders.
