The Sr. Structural – Bridge Design Engineer will spearhead and manage bridge design engineering initiatives from initial concept through to final execution. The role involves the design, analysis, and assessment of bridge structures to guarantee safety, operational effectiveness, and adherence to NCDOT standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities of Sr. Structural – Bridge Design Engineer:
- Direct and manage bridge design and analysis tasks in compliance with NCDOT standards.
- Conduct structural analyses and design various bridge types, including new builds, expansions, and rehabilitations.
- Draft and evaluate engineering reports, drawings, and specifications.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ensure projects align with budgetary limits and timelines.
- Perform site inspections and assessments of current bridge conditions.
- Offer technical advice and mentorship to junior Engineers and personnel.
- Keep current with NCDOT policies, guidelines, and best practices in the industry.
Requirements for Sr. Structural – Bridge Design Engineer:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline;
- Master’s degree (MSCE) is advantageous.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina is required.
- 10 to 15+ years of bridge engineering experience, particularly within NCDOT projects.
- Thorough understanding of NCDOT design standards, specifications, and operational procedures.
- Expertise in bridge design software (e.g., LARSA, Merlin Dash, Leap Bridge).
- Familiarity with detailing tools such as MicroStation and OpenBridge is a plus.
- Solid knowledge of civil engineering principles and the management of teams and projects.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication abilities.
- Capacity to work autonomously as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
