Job Summary
The Cardiac Surgery RN First Assistant plays a vital role in the surgical team during cardiac procedures. This position mandates a strong background in cardiac care, allowing for effective assistance to surgeons and ensuring optimal patient outcomes during surgeries. The RN First Assistant is expected to work closely with the surgical team within the operating room environment, directly influencing the success of complex cardiac operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist the surgical team in performing various cardiac procedures, including prepping the surgical area and ensuring sterility.
- Utilize advanced nursing skills to provide direct care to patients before, during, and after surgical interventions.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and manage any emergent issues that arise during surgery.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to achieve optimal surgical outcomes.
- Educate patients and their families regarding postoperative care and recovery processes.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure with proven experience in cardiac nursing or surgery.
- Advanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and surgical procedures.
- Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Excellent communication skills to facilitate teamwork and patient education.
- Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing situations during surgeries.
