Job description

Job Summary

The CNC Machinist in Wilmington, DE, priced at $40 per hour, plays a crucial role in the fabrication of prototypes and specialized machined components. This position involves hands-on responsibilities, including interpreting technical drawings and CAD models, planning machining workflows, programming CNC machinery, and ensuring the production of precise, high-quality parts.

Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, operate, and troubleshoot TRAK CNC machinery.
  • Fabricate low-volume and prototype components based on specifications, prints, and CAD models.
  • Plan machining tasks, including tool paths, setups, and material preparation.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, set feeds and speeds, and adjust machines for optimal quality and performance.
  • Operate various manual shop equipment such as Bridgeport mills, toolroom lathes, grinders, and drill presses.
  • Create or modify fixtures, jigs, and soft jaws as required.
  • Inspect finished parts to verify compliance with dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to clarify design objectives and address machining issues.
  • Maintain a safe, organized workspace while ensuring timely delivery of projects to customers.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a machine shop environment.
  • Proficiency in programming and setting up CNC machinery.
  • Familiarity with TRAK CNC equipment.
  • Strong background in manual machining using Bridgeport mills, toolroom lathes, and similar tools.
  • Capability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD files.
  • Experience in fixture design, workholding solutions, tooling selection, and setup strategies.
  • Proficient in current CAD software and typical file formats.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Educational background from a technical or trade school, or completion of a machinist apprenticeship.
  • Experience in prototype machining, job shop operations, toolroom tasks, custom equipment fabrication, or low-volume production.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and the production of tight-tolerance components.
