Job Summary
The HIM Coder is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely coding of health information to enhance patient care and maintain compliance with regulatory standards. This role requires meticulous attention to detail when reviewing patient records and assigning appropriate codes for diagnoses and procedures. The HIM Coder plays a critical role in the documentation process, which impacts billing, quality reporting, and patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Review patient medical records for coding accuracy.
- Assign appropriate ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on documentation.
- Ensure compliance with federal regulations and guidelines.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to clarify documentation and coding queries.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all patient information.
- Stay updated on coding standards and regulatory changes.
Qualifications
- Certification in health information management (e.g., RHIT, CCS).
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and coding principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems is preferred.
