Infection Preventionist
Location: Rockville & White Oak, MD
Pay: $56/hr-$60/hr
Contract: 3 Months
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM-5:00 PM | Onsite, multi-site
The Infection Preventionist will provide interim support for the acute inpatient rehabilitation service line in Rockville and White Oak. This leadership-facing role will maintain Infection Prevention operations, regulatory readiness, and surveillance while advising clinical and executive leaders. Candidates must be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Infection Preventionist Responsibilities:
- Conduct infection surveillance, outbreak investigations, and healthcare-associated infection monitoring.
- Lead day-to-day Infection Prevention operations across the Rockville and White Oak rehabilitation sites.
- Advise clinical, physician, operational, and executive leaders on infection risks, isolation precautions, and prevention practices.
- Collaborate with Occupational Health, Infectious Disease, and system-wide Infection Prevention resources.
- Maintain required databases and reports, report communicable diseases, and support regulatory readiness.
- Monitor trends involving CAUTI, VRE, MRSA, ESBL, C. difficile, respiratory illnesses, and other communicable infections.
- Provide Infection Prevention education and represent the function in committees and leadership discussions.
Infection Preventionist Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in a related field and active CIC certification required; RN licensure is not required.
- Minimum 5 years of direct Infection Prevention or Infection Control experience in a true acute-care hospital; subacute-only experience does not qualify.
- Experience with surveillance, outbreak investigations, isolation precautions, regulatory reporting, and healthcare-associated infection prevention.
- Knowledge of OSHA, Joint Commission, CDC, CARF, and applicable infection prevention requirements.
- Ability to work independently, advise senior leaders, and collaborate effectively across clinical teams.
- Flexibility to work onsite in Rockville or White Oak and travel between sites when urgently needed.
- Master’s degree, 10+ years of experience, acute rehabilitation experience, and familiarity with NHSN, Cerner, or TheraDoc are preferred.
