Job Summary
The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) plays a pivotal role in providing care to expectant mothers before, during, and after childbirth. This position involves supporting patients through the labor process and ensuring the health and wellbeing of both the mother and the newborn. The RN will utilize clinical skills and compassion to deliver high-quality care in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess the condition of laboring patients by checking vital signs and the progress of labor.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed while observing for side effects or complications.
- Support patients with pain management techniques and provide emotional support during the labor process.
- Assist with the delivery of the newborn and ensure immediate care is provided post-delivery.
- Educate patients and their families on prenatal and postpartum care, as well as infant care practices.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Experience in high-risk obstetrics or labor and delivery preferred.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Critical thinking skills and the capability to make informed decisions quickly.
