In this contractor role, the IT Software Developer in Test (SDET) will address testability issues and develop technological solutions to aid both developers and testers. This position requires leveraging software engineering expertise to identify risks and possible defects in software components or systems. The SDET will play a key role in shaping software/system development decisions by reviewing work and offering insights on how to tackle testability challenges. Responsibilities will encompass various activities throughout the software development lifecycle, employing diverse methods and techniques to achieve optimal solutions. The contractor will also collaborate with the Agency BFD project team to promote quality-driven practices in software development and will work closely with project teams to enhance their use of test automation tools and consult on the development and implementation of new test automation techniques.

Daily Responsibilities:
– Co-manage and maintain the team’s automation framework and assets.
– Provide subject matter expert support for Agency test automation across Enterprise, Cross-Platform, and Agency-specific initiatives (encompassing all IT Government Work Types).
– Develop new test automation resources related to new functionalities and risk areas.
– Support the Integration/Acceptance phase during the quoting release cycle.
– Aid Quality Assurance Analysts (QAAs) in diagnosing and resolving test automation failures.
– Handle troubleshooting and maintenance updates for existing scripts based on established modifications (PUF requests) and validated failures.
– Consult with Developers regarding any application and/or environmental issues encountered.
– Communicate with the OPS Team, Quality Assurance Services Manager (QASM), Data Quality (DQ), project team Team Leads/QAAs, and others as necessary regarding identified issues.
– Utilize AI tools in daily activities (e.g., Copilot, Codex, Claude, etc.).

Required Skills:
– Experience in testing APIs and Web Services.
– Comprehensive understanding of Development and QA processes, methodologies, and tools.
– Strong capability in both white-box and black-box testing strategies, including functional, unit, system, integration, regression, and other relevant manual and automated testing techniques.
– Proven track record in fast-paced and technically intricate environments.
– Experience managing competing priorities while collaborating with business stakeholders and developers.
– Knowledge of automated test design methodologies.
– Proficiency with MSTest and Playwright.
– Strong skills in .NET/C#.
– Familiarity with Microsoft tools such as Visual Studio, TFS, and SQL Server.
– Understanding of Web Services, including RESTful APIs and scripting languages.
– Basic knowledge of MVC and Angular frameworks.
– Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, Git).

Preferred Skills:
– Awareness of Accessibility standards and testing tools (e.g., WCAG, Axe, Evinced, etc.).
– Capability to utilize AI tools effectively in daily tasks (e.g., Copilot, Codex, Claude, etc.).
– Understanding of industry standards, like ACORD.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
– Minimum of 9 years of relevant experience in designing, programming, and supporting software applications, or
– Completion of a technical training program combined with at least 6 years of relevant experience in designing, programming, and supporting software applications, or
– A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology or a related field (e.g., Engineering, Mathematics, Sciences) along with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in designing, programming, and supporting software applications.
