Overview of the Mechanical Engineer Position
We are on the lookout for a passionate Ph.D.-level Mechanical Engineer to assist in the cutting-edge development of military and defense systems. This position is centered on significant projects related to weapon systems, autonomous technologies, thermal management strategies, high-performance materials, and intricate mechanical system designs.
Key Duties of the Mechanical Engineer
- Drive the design, evaluation, and prototyping of mechanical systems for advanced defense applications.
- Conduct finite element analysis (FEA), dynamic modeling, and thermal/fluid dynamic simulations.
- Work collaboratively on the development of innovative materials, actuation mechanisms, and designs focused on energy efficiency.
- Convert high-level technical specifications into practical mechanical systems ready for production.
- Generate and deliver technical documentation, including reports, white papers, and design presentations for stakeholders and government entities.
- Assist in the creation of proposals and technical responses for Department of Defense-funded projects (e.g., SBIR/STTR, DARPA, ONR).
- Guarantee that designs meet MIL-STD specifications and environmental regulations.
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers while contributing to the overarching technology strategy.
Mechanical Engineer Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines (e.g., Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics).
- Over 10 years of experience in research-focused or defense-related engineering roles.
- Solid understanding of structural mechanics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, or system integration.
- Skilled in engineering software such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, COMSOL, MATLAB, or similar tools.
- Experience with defense or governmental research initiatives.
- Excellent technical writing, presentation, and communication abilities.
- Preferred experience in additive manufacturing, composites, or micro-mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with military standards (e.g., MIL-STD, MIL-SPEC) is advantageous.
- Hands-on experience in prototyping, testing, or laboratory settings is preferred.
- Knowledge of systems engineering practices and the Department of Defense acquisition process is desirable.
