Overview of the Mechanical Engineer Position
We are in search of an enthusiastic Ph.D.-level Mechanical Engineer to assist in the cutting-edge development of military and defense systems. This position is centered around significant projects that encompass weapon systems, autonomous technologies, thermal management strategies, high-performance materials, and intricate mechanical design.
Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer
- Drive the design, analysis, and prototyping of mechanical systems for advanced defense applications.
- Conduct finite element analysis (FEA), dynamic modeling, and thermal/fluid simulations.
- Work collaboratively on creating innovative materials, actuation technologies, and designs that enhance energy efficiency.
- Convert high-level technical requirements into practical, manufacturable mechanical systems.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports, white papers, and design documents for stakeholders and government entities.
- Aid in the creation of proposals and technical submissions for Department of Defense-funded initiatives (such as SBIR/STTR, DARPA, ONR).
- Ensure that designs meet MIL-STD specifications and environmental standards.
- Guide junior engineers and play a key role in long-term technology development strategies.
Qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer Position
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline (e.g., Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics).
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in research-focused or defense-related engineering positions.
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and system integration.
- Expertise in engineering software tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, COMSOL, MATLAB, or similar applications.
- Prior experience working on defense or government-funded research projects.
- Excellent skills in technical writing, presentations, and communications.
- Preferred experience in additive manufacturing, composites, or micro-mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with military standards (MIL-STD, MIL-SPEC) is preferred.
- Hands-on experience in prototyping, testing, or laboratory work is preferred.
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles and the DoD acquisition process is preferred.
