Operations Manager

Job Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations within a complex, round-the-clock manufacturing environment. Reporting directly to the Operations Leader, this role focuses on guiding day-shift personnel while closely collaborating with shift leaders, as well as various engineering and maintenance teams. The ideal candidate will foster a workplace culture grounded in trust, respect, accountability, and collaboration, ensuring that the team safely produces quality products, meets customer expectations, enhances productivity, and adheres to environmental and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support day-shift operations in hot-end manufacturing, specifically in batch, binder, and furnace processes.
  • Cultivate a robust culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and accountability within the team.
  • Track and analyze production, quality, cost, and efficiency metrics while initiating improvement measures.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and process engineers to enhance standardized work, minimize losses, and address quality challenges.
  • Ensure all manufacturing processes and quality systems align with product specifications and customer needs.
  • Lead, mentor, and hold team members accountable within a unionized environment.
  • Manage performance metrics, documentation, corrective actions, training, and employee development.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean, 5S, TPM, and Six Sigma.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, environmental regulations, and compliance standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing setting.
  • At least 2 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing context, or completion of a leadership development program.
  • Preferably experienced in a unionized workplace.
  • Background in continuous-process manufacturing, particularly in areas like hot-end processes, glass, insulation, chemical, metals, ceramics, or similar fields.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, and 5S principles is advantageous.
  • Strong skills in leadership, communication, coaching, planning, problem-solving, and data analysis.
