Job Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations within a complex, round-the-clock manufacturing environment. Reporting directly to the Operations Leader, this role focuses on guiding day-shift personnel while closely collaborating with shift leaders, as well as various engineering and maintenance teams. The ideal candidate will foster a workplace culture grounded in trust, respect, accountability, and collaboration, ensuring that the team safely produces quality products, meets customer expectations, enhances productivity, and adheres to environmental and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and support day-shift operations in hot-end manufacturing, specifically in batch, binder, and furnace processes.
- Cultivate a robust culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and accountability within the team.
- Track and analyze production, quality, cost, and efficiency metrics while initiating improvement measures.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and process engineers to enhance standardized work, minimize losses, and address quality challenges.
- Ensure all manufacturing processes and quality systems align with product specifications and customer needs.
- Lead, mentor, and hold team members accountable within a unionized environment.
- Manage performance metrics, documentation, corrective actions, training, and employee development.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean, 5S, TPM, and Six Sigma.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, environmental regulations, and compliance standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing setting.
- At least 2 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing context, or completion of a leadership development program.
- Preferably experienced in a unionized workplace.
- Background in continuous-process manufacturing, particularly in areas like hot-end processes, glass, insulation, chemical, metals, ceramics, or similar fields.
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, and 5S principles is advantageous.
- Strong skills in leadership, communication, coaching, planning, problem-solving, and data analysis.
