Packaging Operations Director
Location: Wooster, OH
Salary Range: $122,000 – $168,000

Position Overview:
The Packaging Operations Director is responsible for high-level leadership of all packaging activities, encompassing Fill, FTO, and Blend processes. This role emphasizes the importance of safety, quality, cost efficiency, service levels, and employee outcomes. The Director will ensure the packaging strategy is in sync with manufacturing and overall business goals while fostering operational excellence, adherence to regulations, and ongoing enhancements in all packaging operations.

This position acts as a pivotal manufacturing leader, collaborating closely with Plant Leadership, Blending/Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Finance to promote sustainable operations and facilitate future advancements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee comprehensive packaging operations, addressing staffing, throughput, equipment efficiency, and material management.
  • Convert business and production strategies into actionable packaging implementation plans that align with safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.
  • Formulate both short and long-term operational strategies, focusing on capacity planning, labor distribution, and capital requirements.
  • Collaborate with Plant Leadership to create budgets, project costs, and manage financial impacts related to packaging.
  • Ensure effective collaboration among Blending/Production, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Guide, mentor, and develop Packaging Managers and other key leaders, fostering a robust leadership pipeline.
  • Cultivate a culture of accountability, engagement, safety, and a commitment to continuous improvement among all packaging teams.
  • Set clear performance goals, conduct talent assessments, and lead succession planning initiatives.
  • Encourage training excellence, skills enhancement, and the implementation of standardized work practices.
  • Take responsibility for the safety performance of all packaging operations by ensuring thorough risk management and compliance with regulations.
  • Guarantee that packaging procedures comply with both internal quality standards and external regulatory stipulations.
  • Work alongside Quality teams to investigate and rectify deviations, address non-conformities, and manage customer feedback.
  • Instill a quality-first approach through effective metrics, rigorous audits, and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Lead initiatives focused on Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and ongoing enhancements.
  • Leverage data, key performance indicators, and problem-solving techniques to elevate operational performance.
  • Advocate for the standardization of best practices and explore opportunities for automation.
  • Assist with the introduction of new products, line expansions, and packaging innovations.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of advancing manufacturing leadership experience in a 24/7 operating environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-shift, multi-line packaging or production teams.
