Job Summary
The Process Development Engineer plays a critical role in creating and refining manufacturing processes while managing Controls and Automation initiatives within capital development projects. This position is tasked with ensuring that automation methodologies are effectively conceived, integrated, and executed, leading to enhanced operational efficiencies.
Responsibilities
- Provide site support with a focus on customer satisfaction by partnering with Plant teams on process and automation initiatives.
- Work alongside Process Subject Matter Experts to determine process requirements and limitations, designing solutions that fulfill specified criteria.
- Design and deploy automated systems, incorporating robotics, PLCs, and control systems.
- Establish and uphold standards for automation architecture, programming, and technical documentation.
- Oversee project schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure projects are completed successfully.
- Guarantee adherence to safety, regulatory, and cybersecurity standards for automated solutions.
- Promote collaboration with capital engineering, IT, productivity, reliability, and quality teams to achieve objectives.
- Ensure seamless integration of new process technologies (Digital Manufacturing) into operations.
- Implement root-cause analysis and corrective measures for automation-related interruptions using digital tools.
- Identify and enforce equipment enhancements in conjunction with the Capital Engineering and Productivity teams when necessary.
- Develop and execute preventative and predictive maintenance plans and operational procedures related to plant equipment and machinery.
- Conduct training for plant Operations, Maintenance, and Technical Leaders to foster a culture of continuous learning.
- Guide and train skilled craftspeople on advanced process control techniques.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, or a related discipline.
- Experience in the fields of industrial automation, robotics, and control systems integration.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or technical setting, particularly in heavy manufacturing.
- Knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA systems, and industrial networking principles.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and process improvement techniques.
- Proficient in automation software and tools such as Rockwell, Siemens, and Python for scripting tasks.
- Capability to lead intricate automation projects from initial concept to final implementation.
- Six Sigma certification (Green Belt) is preferred.
