$60,000-70,000 Project Designer II Overview
The Project Designer II supports the design and documentation of commercial retail projects, contributing from schematic design through construction documents. Working under the direction of a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager, this role collaborates with internal teams, clients, and consultants to deliver efficient, code-compliant retail environments. The Project Designer II assists with construction administration, prepares graphic presentation materials, and ensures all drawings and deliverables align with firm standards, schedules, and retail-specific project requirements.
Project Designer II Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program meeting NCARB licensing criteria
- 3–6 years of experience in commercial, office, or retail architecture
- Strong ability to multitask and manage multiple projects to meet deadlines
- Proficient knowledge of building systems and construction assembly types
- Self-motivated problem solver with excellent listening skills
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to move through projects and tasks efficiently and thoroughly
- Experience or demonstrated ability to develop construction administration skills
- Good understanding of:
- Accessibility standards
- Building code requirements
- Green design criteria
- CSI specifications
- Basic understanding of architectural materials and products
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Photoshop
Project Designer II Responsibilities
- Organize and set up drawings, progressing projects from schematic design through full construction documents under the supervision of a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager
- May oversee and direct an Architectural Intern to assist with drawing production, depending on project size and staffing needs
- Communicate directly with clients and consultants
- Attend and document project meetings
- Assist with construction administration activities
- Support the development of graphic presentation materials
- Adhere to standards, including drafting and graphic standards, folder organization, and file-naming conventions
