The Project Designer II supports the design and documentation of commercial retail projects, contributing from schematic design through construction documents. Working under the direction of a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager, this role collaborates with internal teams, clients, and consultants to deliver efficient, code-compliant retail environments. The Project Designer II assists with construction administration, prepares graphic presentation materials, and ensures all drawings and deliverables align with firm standards, schedules, and retail-specific project requirements.
Project Designer II Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program meeting NCARB licensing criteria
  • 3–6 years of experience in commercial, office, or retail architecture
  • Strong ability to multitask and manage multiple projects to meet deadlines
  • Proficient knowledge of building systems and construction assembly types
  • Self-motivated problem solver with excellent listening skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to move through projects and tasks efficiently and thoroughly
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to develop construction administration skills
  • Good understanding of:
    • Accessibility standards
    • Building code requirements
    • Green design criteria
    • CSI specifications
  • Basic understanding of architectural materials and products
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Photoshop

Project Designer II Responsibilities

  • Organize and set up drawings, progressing projects from schematic design through full construction documents under the supervision of a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager
  • May oversee and direct an Architectural Intern to assist with drawing production, depending on project size and staffing needs
  • Communicate directly with clients and consultants
  • Attend and document project meetings
  • Assist with construction administration activities
  • Support the development of graphic presentation materials
  • Adhere to standards, including drafting and graphic standards, folder organization, and file-naming conventions
