Assess how materials science advances could enable harmful applications by evaluating material properties, processing, manufacturing feasibility, and the resources required for misuse. Translate risk assessments into policy boundaries, evaluation priorities, and mitigation requirements while collaborating with scientific, engineering, threat-modeling, and policy teams. Requires a PhD or comparable experience in materials science or a related discipline, along with substantive experience assessing dual-use risks and understanding consequential harmful applications. Candidates should be able to evaluate feasibility and uncertainty, synthesize specialist evidence across disciplines, communicate clearly, and collaborate across science, engineering, and policy.
