Overview of the Shipping Associate Role:
The Shipping Associate is responsible for managing the packaging and labeling of outbound shipments in accordance with military, corporate, or customer specifications and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilizes UPS and FedEx shipping and labeling machinery.
- Maintains records of outgoing shipments.
- Packages materials in compliance with standard operating procedures, ensuring safe transit.
- Prepares shipping documentation and labels, ensuring that orders are fulfilled accurately.
- Correctly addresses and labels shipments, calculates freight/postal rates, and documents each shipment’s weight and cost.
- Creates commercial invoices and coordinates shipment information with relevant departments, such as finance.
- Confirms the contents of incoming shipments against the original order and accompanying documentation.
- Records shipments and the condition of items received.
- Uses a barcode scanner during the receipt of inventory.
- Reviews shipments for any discrepancies regarding quantity, pricing, and discounts.
- Facilitates the proper handling of received items.
- Coordinates with shippers for correcting issues related to lost or damaged merchandise.
- Manages operations on the receiving platform, including weight verification and charges for incoming and outgoing freight.
- Ensures accurate physical receipt of materials/products, thereby supporting effective inventory control through an ERP system.
- Delivers materials/products to the appropriate department promptly.
- Adheres to and promotes the company’s aerospace SHE policies and standards.
Essential Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Familiarity with stockroom, shipping, receiving, and inspection procedures.
- Effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Strong organizational abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience with handheld inventory scanning devices.
- Access to controlled technology, materials, or software as stipulated by US export laws.
- US citizenship or status as a Permanent Resident is required.
- Experience with computerized inventory management systems (MRP, ERP).
- Experience operating hydraulic lifts, pallet jacks, and powered lift equipment.
Desirable Skills:
- Prior experience in safely operating a forklift.
- Working knowledge of electronic inventory management systems.
- Experience with barcode inventory processes.
- Familiarity with cycle counting methods.
- Experience with kitting processes.
