Sr. Geotechnical Engineer
Greater Cleveland
$120,000 – $135,000

As a vital member and Department Lead of the Geotechnical Team, the **Sr. Geotechnical Engineer** will conduct geotechnical explorations and assessments for various clients. You will apply your deep knowledge and innovative problem-solving abilities while working collaboratively with institutions, municipal organizations, architects, engineers, developers, and project teams to produce tailored geotechnical analyses, reports, and solutions. This position will oversee projects from the initial concept phase through to completion, ensuring thorough integration and the best possible outcomes during land profile assessments.

Key Highlights:

  • A diverse array of projects including infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and unique engineering initiatives.
  • Most projects focus on DOT-related work (roadways) and airport/runway developments.
  • Typically, projects are located within a 60-90 mile range from the company headquarters, with minimal travel requirements and scarce overnight stays.
  • Company vehicle may be provided, or personal vehicle usage may be reimbursed.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct geotechnical investigations, site characterization, slope stability analyses, and risk evaluations for various developments.
  • Oversee and mentor lab technicians while ensuring quality reviews and maintaining certifications, as well as managing equipment inventory and calibration.
  • Guide the training and professional development of junior Engineers (EIs and new PEs).
  • As the Department Manager for Northern Ohio, you will oversee operations, P&L, scheduling, and performance, fulfilling both production and managerial roles.
  • Monitor project timelines and budgets to assess progress.
  • Assist the Marketing team with the technical components involved in proposal development.
  • Ensure that the quality of submitted work meets established standards (QA/QC).
  • Provide project-specific guidance including lab testing assignments, reviewing documentation, and verifying test results for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare comprehensive geotechnical engineering reports.
  • Engage with clients to discuss the technical elements of their projects.
  • Evaluate soils laboratory testing results.
  • Help to plan and execute subsurface investigation programs, including interpreting project design plans, positioning test borings, and coordinating with underground utility clearance.
  • Develop designs and analyses for earth embankments, retaining structures, and anchoring systems.
  • Conduct analyses and design for shallow and deep foundations, as well as slope stability assessments.
  • Oversee and enforce quality control standards and specifications throughout projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret design documents.
  • Proficient in meeting deadlines.
  • Familiarity with common geotechnical software, with the capability to learn new software quickly.
  • Self-driven, dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to quality.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in consulting engineering for various civil projects.
  • Proven P.E. certification is mandatory.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • A Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is advantageous, but not essential.
