Job Summary
The Surgery RN plays a pivotal role in the surgical unit, providing expert nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures. This professional is responsible for ensuring that patients receive optimal support and monitoring throughout their surgical experience, collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthetists, and other healthcare team members.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients’ pre-operative conditions and prepare them for surgery.
- Assist in surgical procedures by providing necessary tools and support to the surgical team.
- Monitor patients’ vitals and overall well-being during and after surgery.
- Educate patients and families about surgical procedures and post-operative care.
- Document all nursing activities and patient responses accurately and thoroughly.
- Participate in the management of surgical instruments and sterile supplies.
- Implement infection control protocols to ensure safety in the surgical environment.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure is required.
- Experience in the surgical or operating room setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of patient care and surgical procedures.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
