Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the operating room, offering assistance to surgeons and other medical staff during surgical procedures. This position requires a keen attention to detail and a solid understanding of surgical equipment and instruments, ensuring a safe and efficient surgical environment. The Surgical Tech is essential for preparing the operating room and maintaining sterile conditions throughout the procedure.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and set up surgical instruments and equipment required for various procedures.
- Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and materials during operations.
- Monitor and maintain the sterile field to prevent contamination.
- Handle specimens and ensure proper labeling and documentation is completed.
- Perform cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments post-procedure.
- Collaborate effectively with surgical staff to ensure all preparations meet the necessary health and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
- Certification from a recognized body, such as the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure environments.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification may be required.
