Vibration Test Engineer
Location: Dayton, OH
Salary: $115,000/year
The Vibration Test Engineer is tasked with orchestrating and implementing propeller vibration testing tasks to identify suitable propeller and engine pairings for aircraft applications. Duties encompass establishing testing protocols and instrumentation needs, coordinating testing activities, overseeing logistics, assessing and interpreting results, and sharing technical insights. Testing occurs both on-site and at customer facilities, with travel expected to be up to 25%, which may include occasional international trips. The working environments will vary, including office spaces, test laboratories, and aircraft hangars. This role involves installing propellers and vibration testing apparatus, as well as participating in flights on test aircraft to gather data. Additionally, this position aids in the journey toward achieving FAA ODA Unit Member status.
Key Responsibilities for the Vibration Test Engineer
- Conduct propeller vibration assessments to test compatibility with various engines
- Strategize and oversee vibration testing initiatives, from project inception to completion and coordination
- Specify the requirements for instrumentation and data collection
- Examine test results and generate comprehensive technical documentation
- Install strain gauges and vibration measurement tools on both aluminum and composite materials
- Relay technical findings to teams, clients, and external consultants
- Assist in discussions regarding configuration, design, and implementation relevant to testing
- Oversee multiple projects and timelines concurrently
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering Technology paired with A&P certification
- At least 5 years of relevant engineering experience
- Proficient in computer applications (MS Office is essential)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in flight testing
- Knowledge of piloting and general aviation aircraft
- Familiarity with electronic testing equipment
Technical Competencies
- Principles of flight testing, covering test planning, data acquisition, analysis, and reporting
- Knowledge of vibration and fatigue assessments
- Understanding of aircraft performance essentials
