This position focuses on the strategic coordination and allocation of nursing and support staff, tailored to the hospital’s patient census, acuity levels, and operational necessities. The ideal candidate should possess experience in hospital staffing, centralized staffing operations, or resource management, demonstrating a comfort with making quick staffing decisions in a high-pressure, call center atmosphere. This role demands excellent communication abilities, sharp critical thinking skills, and adeptness at juggling various urgent priorities with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the deployment of nursing and ancillary personnel across different inpatient units.
  • Respond to incoming staffing inquiries and operational calls in a high-traffic call center setting.
  • Handle real-time adjustments to staffing in response to call-outs and shifts in demand.
  • Assess staffing requirements based on patient census, acuity, and operational needs.
  • Create staffing plans for upcoming shifts, prioritizing patient care demands.
  • Engage effectively with Hospital Supervisors, Charge Nurses, and departmental leadership.
  • Address admissions, discharges, and changes in staffing or patient safety requirements.
  • Participate in staffing huddles and meetings focused on operational planning.
  • Utilize workforce scheduling tools to manage assignments and staff availability.
  • Contribute to patient flow and hospital efficiency through informed staffing choices.
  • Communicate professionally with clinical staff and various hospital departments while managing multiple priorities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED is mandatory; an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 2 years in healthcare staffing coordination is required; 3–5 years is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in an inpatient hospital staffing context such as centralized staffing, resource management, or bed management.
  • Proficient in managing call-outs, shift coverage, and workforce allocation effectively.
  • Solid understanding of patient census and acuity-based staffing principles.
  • Familiarity with workforce scheduling platforms like Smart Square, Kronos, or UKG is preferred; knowledge of Epic and Microsoft Office adds value.
  • Exemplary communication, customer service, organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking capabilities.
  • Able to thrive in a metrics-driven, busy call-center environment.
  • Strong ability to manage various priorities, learn rapidly, and work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Willingness to be available for weekend and holiday shifts as necessary, without any conflicting commitments.
