Job Summary
The OR RN Circulator plays a crucial role in the surgical team, serving as a registered nurse responsible for overseeing and managing the operating room environment during surgical procedures. This position ensures patient safety and effective communication between all surgical team members, thus contributing to positive surgical outcomes. The Circulator is accountable for various tasks before, during, and after the surgery, including the preparation of the operating room and securing appropriate instruments and supplies needed for procedures.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary nurse responsible for the coordination of patient care in the operating room.
- Prepare the surgical environment, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available before the start of surgery.
- Monitor the patient’s status throughout the surgical procedure, advocating for their safety and comfort.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare staff during operations.
- Document surgical procedures and patient responses accurately and comprehensively.
- Assist in maintaining a sterile field throughout the surgery.
- Participate in the training and orientation of new staff members in operating room procedures and protocols.
Qualifications
- Current and valid registered nurse (RN) license.
- Experience in perioperative nursing or completion of an operating room nursing program is preferred.
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures and protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills essential for teamwork.
- Ability to respond adeptly to emergencies and manage stress in a high-stakes environment.
- Demonstrated competency in utilizing surgical instruments and equipment.
