Accounting Manager
Cleveland, OH
$145,000 – $155,000

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for all operational accounting functions, encompassing general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and treasury operations. This position includes supervising up to five direct reports and ensuring precision in financial record-keeping, adherence to accounting principles, and effective leadership of the accounting team.

Responsibilities of the Accounting Manager:

  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, which includes personnel in AP, AR, and accounting specialists. Provide training, evaluate skills, perform annual performance assessments, and establish objectives.
  • Manage the accounts payable process for the firm, including reviewing and auditing expense reports.
  • Oversee the accounts receivable process to ensure all revenues are posted accurately and promptly.
  • Supervise the preparation of monthly cash flow projections.
  • Manage the firm’s general ledger and fixed assets, ensuring accounts are reconciled accurately based on the reconciliation schedule.
  • Oversee treasury operations, including cash and cash equivalents, credit card accounts, trust accounting and reconciliations, wire transfers, and user setups. Act as the firm’s representative with banking partners.
  • Determine the setup of the general ledger, including its structure, account additions, and consolidations.
  • Evaluate and propose enhancements to internal controls and accounting processes.
  • Provide support to the Director of Finance and CFO with special projects as required.

Requirements for the Accounting Manager:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is mandatory.
  • CPA certification is required.
  • Over 10 years of progressive experience, preferably within a legal or service organization, including more than 5 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Capability to delegate tasks, guide, and assess team members, including goal setting and performance evaluation.
  • Outstanding organizational, stress management, and time management abilities, with a strong sense of urgency and ability to comply with deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills to convey information to management in a clear and concise manner, facilitating decision-making.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities in addressing firm needs, seeking feedback for service improvement, and honoring commitments.
