Electrical Controls Engineer
Location: Sheffield, OH

Position Overview
The Electrical Controls Engineer plays a crucial role in the upkeep, programming, and troubleshooting of electrical and control systems throughout plant operations. This position is essential for ensuring the optimal functionality and dependability of production and facility equipment, while also spearheading continuous improvement projects and aiding in ISO and IATF compliance. The perfect candidate will possess robust technical skills in controls engineering, predictive maintenance, and process optimization, along with outstanding communication and problem-solving abilities.

Key Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the maintenance database for generating work orders and preventive maintenance (PM) schedules.
  • Design, implement, and maintain a Predictive Maintenance program.
  • Supervise spare parts inventory to reduce production interruptions.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot facility equipment, such as boilers, generators, switchgear, compressors, as well as related electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Support and maintain automated systems, including robotics, electronics, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Program, maintain, and troubleshoot all PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) within the plant.
  • Lead and manage initiatives from the Continuous Improvement / Growth Committee.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain thorough documentation for maintenance and PM for auditing and compliance purposes.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in preparing ISO and IATF documentation for quality assessments.
  • Monitor and report on performance metrics (KPIs) related to maintenance tasks.
  • Provide technical support to the Production and Quality departments for resolving performance and quality challenges.
  • Plan and assist with building and equipment projects, collaborating with contractors and external vendors.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams including Ergonomics, Safety, and Health Committees.
  • Support the development and execution of tooling, fixturing, and equipment enhancement projects.
  • Administer training programs for maintenance staff and ensure compliance with training requirements.
  • Manage environmental waste, recycling, and sustainability efforts.
  • Ensure adherence to NFPA 70 and relevant safety standards and regulations.
  • Promote the proper use of PPE and enforce safety protocols and shop regulations impartially.
  • Investigate and document workplace incidents, promptly addressing unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Act as a liaison during external audits and inspections (IATF/ISO, OSHA, Magna, etc.).
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in maintenance or controls engineering within a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficient with Windows-based applications and maintenance management systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of electronics, including PLCs and VFDs.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities, with a knack for identifying and resolving intricate problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate collaboration with colleagues, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with ISO/IATF standards and safety regulations.
