Overview:
The Director of Recruiting will lead the development and execution of strategic recruiting initiatives for attorneys and professional staff across a multi-office law firm. This position will be crucial in attracting exceptional legal and business talent to foster the firm’s growth, enhance client services, and diversify practice areas. The Director will work closely with senior management, practice leaders, office heads, and HR to ensure alignment of recruiting practices with the firm’s strategic objectives and cultural ethos.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with leadership to formulate and execute a comprehensive recruiting strategy for lateral attorneys, entry-level associates, summer associates, and paralegals.
- Collaborate with firm leadership to evaluate immediate and future talent requirements across various offices and practice areas.
- Enhance the firm’s employer brand through targeted outreach, relationship building with law schools, and strategic marketing efforts.
- Create and implement strategies for employee retention.
- Oversee the entire recruiting cycle in all offices, ensuring a consistent and high-quality candidate experience.
- Enhance recruiting protocols, systems, and tools (including applicant tracking systems, scheduling processes, and candidate communication).
- Lead lateral hiring initiatives for partners and associates in concert with practice group leaders and office heads.
- Work with the Chair of the Summer Associate Program to manage planning and execution, including OCI scheduling, evaluations, and job offers.
- Design and execute recruiting marketing strategies; maintain firm marketing materials in collaboration with the Executive Director of Development and Marketing.
- Develop and oversee recruitment budgets, ensuring proper financial management throughout the year.
- Supervise the Legal Personnel Coordinator.
- Manage resource allocation to ensure efficient operations and minimize redundancies across offices.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on recruitment metrics, trends, and market insights to steer strategic decisions.
- Ensure adherence to legal, ethical standards, and firm policies throughout the recruitment process.
- Build and maintain robust relationships with law schools, legal staffing agencies, professional associations, and industry groups.
- Serve as an ambassador for the firm’s culture and values during all candidate engagements.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree is required; a JD or an advanced degree in Human Resources or a related discipline is preferred.
- At least 8-10 years of advancing recruiting experience, ideally in a law firm or professional services setting, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior or director-level role.
- Experience managing recruitment across various geographic areas and practice groups.
- Ability to establish trust and influence key stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Strong understanding of legal industry trends, compensation structures, and talent acquisition best practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
- Membership in local or national legal professional organizations such as LPAC, CALA, NALP, or SHRM is preferred.
- A strategic mindset complemented by practical execution skills.
- High emotional intelligence with the capacity to deal with sensitive or confidential matters discreetly.
- Willingness to travel to various office sites and law schools as necessary.
