Job Summary
The Embedded Firmware Engineer will be responsible for the creation, execution, and validation of embedded software and firmware for Eaton’s power electronics and Battery Management System (BMS) products. This position emphasizes work with digital signal processors (DSPs) and microcontrollers, focusing on the programming, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of embedded systems. The role also involves promoting model-based design practices, which include simulation and automated code generation, during the New Product Introduction (NPI) stages. Effective collaboration with hardware, systems, and diverse engineering teams is essential to provide dependable, integrated solutions for power conversion and battery management.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and uphold embedded firmware for power electronics and BMS applications.
- Program DSPs and microcontrollers using C/C++ languages.
- Conduct testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of embedded firmware via debugging tools, simulators, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setups.
- Assist in the firmware development and validation during the NPI process.
- Utilize model-based design methodologies, including system modeling and automated code generation.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to create integrated solutions.
- Identify and resolve system-level and software-related issues to enhance product performance and reliability.
- Create and manage technical documents, including software specifications and test plans.
- Contribute to enhancing the processes, tools, and methodologies in embedded software development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar field.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in developing embedded software/firmware for embedded systems.
- At least 5 years of expertise in programming DSPs or microcontrollers.
- Proficient in C or C++ programming for DSP and/or microcontroller systems.
- Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Experience with testing, debugging, and troubleshooting in embedded software.
- Preferably familiar with model-based design, simulation, and automated code generation.
- Experience with HIL testing and embedded debugging tools is advantageous.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work across various teams.
