Engineering Manager Overview
The Engineering Manager works closely with senior technical leadership to support the execution of both short-term and long-term engineering strategy. This role oversees day-to-day engineering operations and helps drive technical excellence, team performance, and cross-functional collaboration across the organization. The Engineering Manager leads multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensures projects are delivered on time and with high quality, and supports business development efforts through technical expertise and customer engagement.
Engineering Manager Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise multidisciplinary engineering teams including RF/microwave, electrical, mechanical, software, systems, PCB design, and engineering support personnel.
- Manage team performance by setting goals, providing coaching and mentorship, conducting performance evaluations, and supporting employee development.
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, work assignment, and performance management for engineering staff.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture aligned with company values and objectives.
- Support engineering teams in developing, implementing, and improving engineering methodologies, processes, and best practices.
- Drive improvements in engineering productivity, ensuring delivery of high-quality solutions on schedule and within budget.
- Facilitate technical decision-making, resolve team conflicts, and strengthen cross-functional collaboration across departments.
- Support Project Managers in addressing engineering resource challenges, design issues, specifications, and quality concerns.
- Participate in customer discussions to assess project feasibility and determine engineering requirements for new opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to support new engineering development initiatives.
- Contribute to technical documentation including technical papers, white papers, application notes, and status reports.
- Support proposal and bid efforts by providing technical input, cost estimates, solution development, and engineering approaches.
- Lead design reviews and technical work sessions.
- Train engineers and technical staff on engineering processes, procedures, and industry best practices.
Engineering Manager Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of engineering and/or systems engineering experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing or mentoring engineering teams.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams across hardware, software, and systems development.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to drive technical decisions.
- Experience supporting proposal development, technical documentation, and customer interactions.
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and lead teams in a fast-paced technical environment.
